Abstract

The Competence of Tourism Human Resources: A Case Study of Teachers in Lombok. Lombok Island is currently developing as a popular tourist destination, and it, therefore, demands a large quantity as well as quality of workforce. Educators play an important role in human resource development of the tourism sector. This case study aims to describe the competences of the teachers and lecturers teaching in the tourism departments of vocational high schools, colleges, and universities. The data from focused group discussion and in-depth interview show that in order to improve their professional competences in tourism, those teachers as well as lecturers need regular thematic tourism-based trainings, acceleration of professional teacher’s certification, or enhancement of formal education level.
