Abstract: Student’s Scientific Reasoning Ability and Misconceptions Concerning Electro- chemistry. This research examines the relationship between students’ scientific reasoning ability (SRA) and misconceptions in Electrochemistry, involving 170 of Year-12 science students of SMA Negeri 3
Kediri and SMA Ar-Risalah Kediri. The students’ SRA was measured by the Classroom Test of Scientific Reasoning (CTSR), while their misconceptions were identified by Electrochemistry Diagnostic Instruments (EDI). The data were analyzed through Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results of the study show that 45.3% of the students were at the concrete level of SRA, 35.9% at the low formal level of SRA, and 18.8% at the up- per formal level of SRA, that as many as 20 misconceptions were identified, five of which were new ones, never being reported in previous studies, and that the students with low level of SRA were more likely to hold misconceptions than those with high level of SRA.
