Abstract: The Management of a Reading Program in Social-science Studies of Taman Siswa Ju- nior High School. This study aims at describing the management of a reading program in the teaching and learning process of social-science studies, the students’ reading habit, the role of library, and facili- ties as well as students’ responses in attempts of improving reading habit, identifying problems, and finding solution to the problems. Employing a qualitative design, this study involved Taman Siswa Jun- ior High School, Yogyakarta Province. The data were collected using document analysis, observation, interviews, and open-ended questionnaire and then analyzed using data tabulation, classification, and comparison to lead to conclusions. The findings show that the management of the reading program and the library was not yet ideal and the students’ reading interest was low. More serious measures should be taken to increase students’ reading habit in the context of the teaching and learning process of social- science studies in Taman Siswa Junior High School.
Abstrak: Pengelolaan Minat Baca dalam Pendidikan IPS di SMP Taman siswa. Penelitian ini ber- tujuan mendeskripsikan pengelolaan minat baca dalam pembelajaran IPS, kondisi minat baca dan peran perpustakaan dalam pendidikan IPS, sarana dan respon siswa dalam rangka peningkatan minat baca, kendala yang dihadapi dan upaya yang perlu dilakukan untuk peningkatan minat baca dalam pendidi- kan IPS. Penelitian dilakukan di SMP Taman Dewasa Tamansiswa Yogyakarta menggunakan pendeka- tan kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan dengan kajian dokumen, observasi, wawancara, dan angket terbuka. Analisis data dilakukan dengan tabulasi data, mengelompokkan, membandingkan, dan menarik kesim- pulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pengelolaan minat baca masih terbatas. Kondisi minat baca masih lemah. Sarana perpustakaan kurang memadai. Hal ini mencerminkan kendala yang dihadapi, sehingga perlu upaya serius untuk meningkatkan minat baca dalam Pendidikan IPS di SMP Tamandewasa, Ta- mansiswa Jogjakarta.
